Zucchini pizza

Today we harvested our zucchini from our garden. We had 3 really big ones and 3 smaller ones, we used just a few of them to make our little zucchini pizzas.

First the children had a chance to grate the cheese.
"This is easy I do it all the time at home with my dad"
Then Mrs.Thiele cut the zucchini for our little pizza crusts.
Next we got spoons to spread the sauce on every crust.
Lastly we got to spread cheese.
"Mm it really looks like pizza!"
"Can we eat it now?"

Watch me!

"Watch this!"                                               "Mrs.Thiele can you watch me?"
                                    "Watch me!"
       "Over here!"
                                                              "Look at my big jump!"

Sometimes teaching preschool you wish you could have eight sets of eyes like a spider to see all the exciting things everyone is doing. And I'm sure as a parent you wish you could be like a fly on the wall, or playground to see all the exciting things your children are doing here.

Here are some of the exciting things your children were demanding my attention over this morning:
Really cool spin jumps over the dirt path...
How they can get up the big tires all by themself and how they can jump down...
Balancing on the long wood pieces and logs.
"Careful on these guys"
Then we ended off by finding some really neat caterpillars in a garden. A teacher told us they were blue swallow tail caterpillars.

Puddles, sticks, and tires

Here's a few pictures of what we did around Adventure Playground today. We found fresh mud puddles, big sticks, and tires to hide in.

It's so wonderful to have such a nice outdoor space to play in.

Kings Park

Field trip to King's Park!
Wait
Wait
Wait... Did we go to the wrong place? It sure seemslike Mosquito Sanctuary Park this time.
Let's get moving! It will be harder for them to get us if we don't stay still!
We found a teepee someone else must have been working on but couldn't stay to admire it long because once again the mosquitoes found us!

We had a special visitor today as one of our parents came to play at the park too!
Some children mentioned they want their dads to come to the park as well!
We can't wait until next time! Hopefully the dragonflies multiply by then and take care of those mosquitoes!

Pancit lunch

Today was a special day. As we know Mrs.Cruz is joining the Infant/toddler room, she decided to share her cooking skills with us one last time and make pancit. The children were excited to help her prepare the vegetables (some from our own garden!)
Mrs.Cruz shared the rules about cutting vegetables with the children telling them, only one child can help at a time, and our knife must always stay touching the cutting board with the sharp side down.

At lunch we couldn't wait to try it! Many children enjoyed the pancit, some put theirs inside buns and some even finished the whole bowl.
Thanks for sharing your special skills and patience with us Mrs.Cruz. We will miss you. ❤️

Treasure hunting 2

We have really been into collecting treasure here in XP. Many of our children fill their pockets full with any little bits and pieces they can find and soon a plain old rock turns into a very special piece of treasure.
So today we started off our day decorating some treasure boxes with pompous and beautiful shiny sequins. When we finished, we set them out to dry while we headed outside to do a treasure hunt!

Here we all are with our treasure! There were 15 treasures and only 10 of us but we did not want to stop until we found every last one! Good hunting XP!

Treasure hunting

Here are some photos from our latest adventure in King's Park.
We walked on a new path we hadn't explored before and some of the children were convinced we were going to find treasure.

Here we go exploring
Our teachers thought this would be a great place to take a photo... We listened but really wanted to keep going on our adventure.
Phew finally we're done with that!
Then the path became more enclosed within the bush,
There were many fallen trees to which the children had many theories about about why the trees had fallen: maybe it was someone with a great big knife, maybe it was wind, maybe it was a storm, and maybe the tree was just old. Good thoughts preschool children!
We saw a wasp coming out of this so we hurried along.
The path got really tiny here!
A tunnel! The treasure must be this way!

Later by the bathroom some children found an old bottle cap half buried in the dirt. They worked together for over 10 minutes trying to free the "treasure". When they finally managed to get the bottle cap out they were so proud that had finally found what they were looking for. Luckily they didn't mind when a mean pirate named Mrs.Thiele stole back the treasure saying old bottle caps weren't a really safe treasure to carry around!

Sand and water

We have been pretend cooking for many days, finding random bits of nature or "treasure" and mixing them with water, mud, and sand to make soup.
"Oh no there is no water"
"Just add a little in here okay sweetie?"

After some cooking, the play changed and the children began building rivers and lakes in the sand. Some children used a wooden watermelon to float down their river to test if there was enough water.

When the water ran out more cooking started with the sticky sand. I was fed many flavours of cookies and cake; vanilla, rainbow, chocolate, banana, and yucky...
"Yucky cake? Why is it yucky?"
"Because silly! It's made out sand!"
