Our outdoor morning

We started our day outside at 7:30am this morning. That meant lots of time to play! Here's a look at some things we did.

A game of monkey in the middle!

Climbing up high on the tires.

Preparing lunch with chalk pieces, sticks, and other bits of things we can find.
Feeling the sand with our toes, and hiding them underneath.
Ring around the big wooden spool, can't catch me!

And don't forget watching the planes go by!
Have a great weekend!

Yay Spring

You can tell we're excited about spring when it's all we can think, talk, and even draw about!
Here is a picture one child drew:

"Sometimes I draw the grass yellow cause that's what color it is... That's the smoke it brings the smell of cookies all the way over to the other house!"

Bouncy bridge

"If you ever want to hear a gaggle of giggles all you need is a bouncy bridge, a group of children, and an enthusiastic teacher that can jump up and down real fast.

All together "1... 2 ... 3 ... 4 ... 5, JUMP!"

Thanks for being so much fun Mr. Freeman!

Exploring Spring

It looks like Spring is finally here to stay!!

These last couple of days had perfect weather; not too hot, not too cold! We explored the many areas of the adventure playground and even made friends from the other programs. :)

"I got up here all by myself, no help."

Our activities throughout the last couple of days included many examples of:

Teamwork by helping each other dig holes in the sand pit and working together to build our "tire houses".

Kindness and generosity when we shared our toys and included everyone in each activity so we could all have fun!

Patience as we took turns to make our activities fair for everyone.

And exploration as we discovered so many new activities to enjoy while we spent time in nature.

Some of these activities included building houses out of tires, playing pirate ship, "cooking", building structures in the sand and making an imaginary store out of our clubhouse!

Field play

Some free play in the field...
Balance....
PARACHUTE!!! So much fun, we have to work together!

Cheese buns

Today some children had the chance to bake with Mrs.Cruz. They made cheese muffins!
Baking is great because it's so versatile in the lessons it has for children! It's a lesson on nutrition of course but it also teaches children early math skills while they measure, it's a science lesson when we take all the ingredients, mix them and turn them into something new and it's even a lesson in cooperation and patience as they wait for turns.

Lady Bug Park

On Tuesday April 12th we decided to take a walk to Lady Bug Park. We got on our outdoor things, got a walking partner and began our journey to the park. While we were there we had lots of fun! We swung on the swings, slid down the slide, climbed on the climber, bounced on the bouncers, and spun on the spinners! We used teamwork and taught each other on how to get up on the big swings and even took turns pushing each other! It was a great time and fun was had by all!

Using teamwork to spin each other we got really dizzy!

Learning how to pump our legs on a swing!

Ice cream for sale!!

Playing chase in the big grassy area

Ernest "Blatz"

Being the Director of a child care facility is a very busy job, especially if that centre is the size of Discovery. We were lucky to have Mr.Blatz take some time out of his busy schedule to come read to us. The children were very excited to have a special guest.

The book was titled "Ernest". It was a funny story about a moose who felt like he didn't belong until a kind friend helped show him that he was important too! We all took turns drawing one piece of Ernest's body until we were done.

Thanks Mr. Blatz !
