Sneak Peek Oct 29, 2016

For the past few weeks we have been working on an exciting new project for our room!
I think the kids are pretty excited about it too. They helped us find a nice piece of wood for our birthday wall.
They also took a beautiful class photo!

We cant wait to share the finished product with you!

Out and about in the field

Its raining, it's pouring... our playground is all muddy.
So out to the field we went to try to sustain our Adventure Playground's beauty.

Out in the field many children were playing a game of running and chase. Sometimes the children were the big bad wolf, or monster and sometimes the teacher was. Thanks Ms.Okolo for having so much energy to chase us around :)

"Mrs.Thiele I found some details over here."
"details?"
"Yes, don't you see all these little pieces here, they're the details"

Banana muffins

Last week when we were making carrot muffins a certain someone kept asking over and over if we were making banana muffins. This week when I saw some brown bananas in the kitchen I knew just what to do...

Together we followed the recipe adding all the ingredients and mashing the bananas.
I even had a helper with the dishes!

It was a special someone's birthday so he got to enjoy his muffin with a candle.
Happy Birthday :)

Pumpkin smash

Flex was very gracious to us and bought us two pumpkins over the weekend. Today we opened one up to see what this pumpkin was all about...

We took turns reaching into the pumpkin to feel the insides.
"It feels like gross"
"It's gooey"
"Squishy"
Then I carefully cut open the pumpkin and handed out chunks to each child.
"Can we eat the seeds?" one child asked. I explained we could but would need to cook them so we collected the seeds into a little pot for later use.
Ms.Lyss also suggested keeping a seed or two so we could plant them next year.
We all explored the pumkin's ooey gooey insides before cleaning up the pieces and heading outside.
Stay tuned for how we enjoyed the seeds.

Free play

Here's a few snap shots of what we were up to last week...

Using our creative minds to find places to build slides.

"hmm where should we put this one?"
"lets make a door"
We discovered these boards are bouncy when you jump on them.
Mrs.Moir came for a visit
I bought some new special rocks, we used magnifying glasses to get a closer look.

Hope everyone had a great week.

Rainbow carrot muffins

This week we were able to harvest our rainbow carrots, we had lots!
We ate some as they were but since we had so many I thought we should bake with them. To be completely honest baking is not my favorite thing but the children love it, and there are so many developmental benefits to it so this is what we did.

First we peeled the carrots, and used the peelers to shred the carrots into tiny pieces.

"I've never peeled a carrot before but now I know how"
"Look at how I do it"

Next we measured out our dry and wet ingredients into two separate bowls. Then mixed them together. It took a lot of team work and patience as we went around the table and took turns adding ingredients. Before putting them in the oven we scooped out the batter into muffin tins.

Finally after waiting what felt like an eternity to some children we were able to eat them! They were enjoyed by most and many children asked for seconds!
"My muffin smells like carrots, and tastes like carrots"
"mmmm"
"I like these carrot muffins"

Overall the whole baking process took us 2 hours and it was worth every minute!
