Be my Valentine?

There was lots of hard work going on at the art table this morning. The supplies put out were Valentines cards, glue, foam hearts, markers, and scissors.

Imagination blocks

It began with a block building....

"It's a car, this is how you start it" The child twists his fingers in the air.

"These ones are to make sure no hammer gets it" Points to the blocks added diagonally against the structure.

Then it became a giant car garage...

"Can my car fit here too?"

Fun at the Gym

It was too cold to go outside. But that didn't stop us from having fun. The children had an amazing time in the gym playing in the bouncer. They showed their coordination and they used their gross motor skills to climb up the back of the bouncer and go down on the slide. They were also able to follow directions; they all ran one way to prevent any accidents . The children decided to attach a tunnel to the bouncer to add an additional challenge to their play. This made their play exciting and fantastic!

Cold cold winter

Exploring in the cold cold snow.

We found ice blocks, they are hard to pick up... We learned, ice is slippery!!

Balancing along the logs, if we fall we get right back up!

A wheel barrel has wheels and a big bucket to hold things. We spin the wheel and try to put ice in the bucket.

Play Dead

This morning one child was singing an Easter song entitled "He's alive again" a little later a group of children began laying down pretending to be dead.

"Our brother died!"
"We need to save him, but he's dead."
Some children acted out grief over the loss of their friend, while others thought of ways to make them better.  Some ideas were CPR, medicine, yelling loudly for them to hear, cymbals, and tickling them to wake them up.

Pirate and Shark Day Adventure

It was the "Sheeps" turn to go to the Large Muscle Room. The children started their play by running around the structure. After a few minutes, they decided to climb on the structure, one decided the structure would be a pirate ship and the rest agreed. Some of the children took and wore customs for the play.

"Hold on tight! We're about to go."
"I'm holding tight"

Swimming fast away from the shark!

"We're safe up here!"

Beading and Building

As the weather was so chilly this morning we spent the morning indoors, this is some of what we did....

Lots of us worked hard on making bracelets or necklaces with beads and pipe cleaners. We had to concentrate really hard to pick up those tiny beads and get them on the pipe cleaners, it was a good workout for our little fingers.
A conversation between Landon and Violet
"I'm all done!"
"It looks beautiful"
"Of course it looks beautiful"

While some of us were beading, others were busy at work locking Ms.Penner into a block jail. We thought about how tall it would need to be to make sure it covered way up to her head. We used our big muscles to move all the blocks and we all had to cooperate to get the job done together.

Snow cooking

We brought out some plastic dishes to do some cooking in the snow. We had fun making pancakes and hot chocolate drinks. The children showed cooperation, creativity and flexibility while doing this play experience.
"It's HOT!" (Chocolate drink in cup)

"My pancake is almost done!"
"We should make more!"

What a beautiful day.

Today was such a beautiful day outside. During the winter months we don't often get blessed with such wonderful weather. It was the perfect day for sledding which is what most of our children did today on our hill in the adventure playground. We had Brayden and Essey sharing a sled. It was so great to see them sharing. Brayden would try so hard to pull Essey up the hill in the sled but would ask for help half way up. Then they would get pushed down and laugh together the whole way down and then start the process all over again.
We also had Jacob and Caleb pulling each other in a sled or at least trying to pull each other. Jacob really wanted to be pulled in a sled so he asked Caleb. And Caleb said yes and tried very hard to pull Jacob but kept slipping and letting go of the rope. After a few minutes of this Jacob got up and asked Caleb if he would like a ride and Caleb said yes. Jacob did pull Caleb around for a bit then got bored and went to play on the hill.
We also had some children who took Ms. Penner to the "beach" where they could no longer get hit by the sled coming down the hill. Elise drove the jet ski with Ms. Penner and Xander to the beach. Once there Elise went swimming in the water and was very careful of sharks and other dangerous water creatures. While Elise was swimming Xander took a turn driving all around and drove them right back to the daycare for lunch.
While the others were sleeping we had some children in the wake up room who were using their fine motor skills to build a house out of blocks. The structure had a roof, four walls and even a chimney. After some decision they decided to add a door and a garage. They we both very excited to show off their house that they worked so hard on.

"Holey" Wood

I'm A fine motor activity including small logs with numerous holes drilled into them were left out for exploration on the art table this morning. Along with the logs were toothpicks, small wooden dowels and pipe cleaners.

These boys chose to work together. They cooperated putting all the dowels in until they were gone. "We need more". They both looked at the table "We can use these!" picking up a pipe cleaner. One picked up a pipe cleaner that he thought resembled the number 9.

These two children cooperated together filling every hole in their log using mostly toothpicks and pipe cleaners. They concentrated using their finger muscles to fit the pieces into the small holes. When they thought they were finished one of them rolled the log over to discover a whole new set of holes to fill. "Look" she pointed and giggled excitedly.

One child came to the table and began pushing the dowels into the log. He examined the log closely as if to see what was inside the holes. He made one line of sticks when another child joined him, together they pushed some of the dowels completely through the log before placing them away in the basket.

"It's a porcupine" He stated after filling the holes with as many dowels as he could find. "It's gonna poke me" He noticed some of the holes were still missing sticks, but toothpicks were too small and pipe cleaners were too bent for the porcupine. He was happy to find some extra dowels hiding in a different art basket.
